Congratulations on begining your journey as a writer! This excerpt is a promising start. I like the dialogue both inner (in italics) and expressed.
Is this a historically based novel or novella? I’d like to learn more about you and your book.
Arvind,
Thank you for your comments. This novel is based on the divinely inspired and courageous life of Joan of Arc, a 15th century saint in France. I’ve added a literary twist-a time-slip to the 20th century where we follow the challenges and strange visions of a young woman embarking on a military career. Wishing you luck and success on your projects as well.
Dear Kaye: Excellent short story; well executed plot and characters. The atmosphere is richly converyed and the formal elements are fine tuned and very professional.
The historic novella/short sthory displays apt vision of the the writer/artist in third person.
The present and past mysteriously entwine without the usual separation.
Critique: The dialogue is well executed, however, writers must be wary of cliche speech, unless cartoonish characterizations are part of the overall theme of the work.
The time layering, and subject matter convey the rich contradictions between the fantasy world of the historic Joan of Arc and the real time world of the university student.
Thank-you for a most excellent and imaginative sojourn this a.m.
