God is within you.
God is within you. This statement has sparked some heavy debate among people of faith all around the world and has caused me a measure of personal angst. Even when I was a little girl, sitting in the pew of our Catholic Church, I felt confounded by some of the teachings of the church. Ever since I can remember I felt as though there was a loving creative force behind all of us. It didn’t seem religious to me . . . just a matter of fact.
Not only do I believe it is true for me but for each and every human, plant, animal and insect on the planet. I also knew that stating this fact out loud could cause me a measure of judgment and suffering from others. Honestly, for years, I was terrified to say this phrase or even hint at it when I taught meditation, past life regression workshops or in my individual sessions with clients.
Maybe it’s in my DNA. My direct maternal ancestor, Mary Dyer, was one of the first persons to be hanged in 1660 for proclaiming this statement in the company of Puritans in Boston, Massachusetts. As a Quaker, she died in the name of religious freedom and as a result of her death, and the deaths of others at that time, the course of history was propelled in a new and ground-breaking direction. One hundred years later, in the 1770’s, our founding fathers included the separation of church and state as well as granting each citizen the inalienable right of the freedom of speech (1st Amendment) in the US Constitution. So, I’m thinking she really did sacrifice herself for the greater good..
Did we lose connection?
Over time we have drifted deep into the void of being human and lost our own connection to the divine aspect of ourselves. The density required to walk comfortably on planet earth was intended to be balanced with our expanded-knowingness of our own higher consciousness and our connection with God, Prime Creator, or the Zero Point Field of creation. Because our earth experience is meant to be based in neutrality – as in positive, neutral, negative – meaning the beauty of the juxtaposition of male and female equally blended. Remember Buddha refers to the ‘Middle Way’ – the path to enlightenment is to walk between the extremes—moderation and neutrality.
“The purpose of life is to reach God within you. Try it so you can be happy, rich and prosperous, beautiful, bountiful and recognizable.” Yogi Bhajan
You are a perfect blend of cosmic consciousness and matter. You are meant to be God consciousness in human form – spiritual beings having a human experience. You are meant to thrive and at the same time enjoy the broad opportunity your humanness affords you. It is your birthright to enjoy and honor the beauty of this experience on EARTH for all of your days.
Because all humanity is connected through karmic ties, axiatonal lines and the quantum field, large collective imbalances become more and more difficult to correct over time. Corruption of the entire system results as these imbalances begin to throw the entire cosmic play or journey off-script and off-course.
You don’t need to look far to see evidence of this imbalance. The depth of corruption of most of our political and commercial systems is tremendous.
For many, many years even the ‘church’ was corrupt and created fear instead of fostering a loving connection with the divine. Would God really create us and then turn around and punish us? Not just the ‘bad’ people but the ‘good’ too. Why?
Mary Dyer was hanged by the Puritans for her Quaker beliefs. Joan of Arc and countless others were burned at the stake for proclaiming their own connection to spirit. Other examples include the burning of the Cathars in France and those who died during the Spanish Inquisition. After all, what would it be like if every woman, man and child felt that they were independent, free and part of the GOD (Generating, Organizing, Delivering) matrix?
Scientific breakthroughs of the last 400 years, since the blossoming of Newtonian physics, further separated our connection from our source. Only now are we seeing the merger of spiritual concepts with new scientific theory. In a sense, we now have the ability to unite the left-brain tangible mind with the right-brain creative ‘Big Concept or Cosmic Creation’ oriented mind, marrying dualistic concepts and creating unity.
You are what you focus upon
Because one half of our nature, our cosmic ancestry, has been ignored by many, humanity has slipped deep into the realm of the negative, the side of the egoic mind. The DNA testing labs only address the particle and matter side of you and not the entirety of your being.
This is why yoga and eastern meditative arts are taking off. When I owned my yoga studio, many students would come to their first class and tell me, “My doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me so he said to try yoga.” The source of their dis-ease was separation.
Luckily there are many ways to bring your self back into balance and harmony with your own soul and cosmic nature. You need merely to change your focus and pay some attention to the spiritual aspect of yourself. Think about this as cultivating any new skill. It does require your physical body to some degree but with a renewed perspective. It’s interesting in that by focusing of the divine aspect of yourself, you may find you’ll begin to cultivate a deeper appreciation and connection with your physical body. That’s cosmic irony for you.
You may begin to notice that your body is the receiver and the interpreter of your divine aspect. Like anything truly profound there is a simplicity to this change in focus. The hardest part is to remember and to train your self to practice this new way of being.
Ways to connect to your higher self/God aspect:
- Desire a new way and envision a connection –even if it is tenuous– know it is there.
- Begin with breathing or just breath awareness. Feel and notice the power of oxygen giving your body life.
- Bring awareness to the wonderment of your body – feel the aliveness and life force within you. You can also go out in nature and get into a state of appreciation.
- See yourself as a quantum field of energy and that energy is your God/Higher Self in action.
- Explore your new yet ancient surroundings – let your mind go – notice what you notice.
- Create a relationship with your felt sense – your feelings and sensations to know when you have connected. You will feel a definite but subtle response.
- Repeat – do this daily – again and again. I’ve been practicing this for 28 years and it NEVER gets old. It’s like going to the wellspring – each and every time.
As always wishing you joy and blissful awakenings…
Love,
Kaye
